Lions, and crocs, and kitties, oh my! Getting dressed for a cold winter day can turn into a fun pretend play experience in an adorable organic animal sweater from Toto Knits. Available in both safari animal and farm animal styles, the sweaters are hand-knit under ethical conditions in Kenya from organic cotton grown locally there. Choose from a lion, crocodile, elephant, pig, chick, fish and more.

The sweaters are designed by Toto Knits founder Erin Brennan Allan and knitted by a group of single mothers who are paid by the piece. Erin says she started the business, which just opened their online shop for a number of reasons: “To help Kenyan women, to do something creative and green, and mostly so I could work for myself  as I have two small children and wanted to be available for them – and thus create work for other working mothers where they could work as much or as little as they wanted.”

The knitters sign each of the sweaters they make, reinforcing their one-of-a-kind nature. You’ll also notice that the details in the designs and the knitting is complete — no ear, whisker, tail, tooth or trunk is forgotten. The sweaters come in a range of sizes for kids as tiny as 3 months old all the way up to 6 years old.
