Cheme Designs Releases New Eco Kids Furniture Line

Cheme Design’s new range of eco-friendly kids furniture has caught our eye with its smooth organic shapes, fun attitude and functionality. Koichiro Hoshino’s Casaurus is a Bookshelf and a Play Structure All in One

What happens when you mix a bookshelf and playground? You get a playful mix of smart storage, inspiration for reading and active play value. Case in point: Casaurus, the senior thesis project of student designer Koichiro Hoshino from Tokyo University of the Arts. The designer’s dinosaur-shaped bookshelf includes plenty of space for a bookworm’s library, a tail-like slide for kids to whiz down, shelves made for climbing and small boxes that add length to the dino’s tail. Kids can also find a reading nook underneath the dino’s belly.

ducduc Cribs Recalled Due to Fall and Entrapment Hazards

About 330 ducduc fixed-side cribs have been voluntarily recalled by the CPSC in conjunction with ducduc. While no injuries have yet been reported, ducduc has received reports of separated rails. If the bottom rails on the crib sides separate from the sides when the mattress is in the lowest position, it may cause the spindles to separate and the mattress to drop. This in turn, can pose fall and entrapment hazards for young children.

Nearly 10,000 Babies Are Injured in Cribs Yearly

If you’re expecting a baby, there’s a good chance that you’ve included a baby crib, baby bassinet or baby playpen on your baby shower gift registry. However, it’s wise to research crib safety before purchasing this mainstay nursery furniture. Each year in the United States, roughly 9,561 children under the age of two are treated in the ER for injuries related to cribs, playpens, and bassinets. In addition to that staggering number, about 100 children die annually due to injuries sustained in cribs. These large figures come via researchers at the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, who recently completed a 19-year study regarding crib dangers. The researchers used data collected via the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, so keep in mind that any children treated in doctor’s offices or urgent-care clinics are not included in these findings.
